Vale in Australia
Vale’s headquarters for its global coal division is in Brisbane, Queensland. Vale believes that maximising growth of the coal business is one of the key strategies for growth of Vale as a global company, and seeks to produce 40 million tonnes per year by 2016.
In Queensland Vale operates the Carborough Downs underground longwall mine near Moranbah. We are part owners of the Isaac Plains Coal Mine, and are developing the Ellensfield Coal Mine (100%) and the Eagle Downs Coal Mine (50%JV) also near Moranbah.
In NSW, Vale operates the Integra Mine near Singleton in the Hunter Valley.
Vale’s coal is used to generate electricity and to make steel.
Vale is also undertaking exploration activities in Australia, and has tenements in copper, iron ore and fertilisers, as well as coal.
